12/15/2008 - PT. Wahana Baratama Mining (WBM) recently signed a second amendment with Leighton

 

PT. Bayan Resources Tbk (Bayan) announced today that its subsidiary, PT Wahana Baratama Mining (WBM), recently signed a Second Amendment with PT. Leighton Contractors Indonesia (Leighton) for the expansion and extension of mining services currently governed by an existing contract dated 3 August 2007 increasing the total contract value to approximately USD3.1 billion including work done to date.

 

The Second Amendment contract includes the mining of coal, the removal of overburden, and the loading and transportation of coal from the mine site to WBM’s intermediate crushing facility. Production will ramp up to a maximum of approximately 9 million tonnes of coal per year and the contract has been extended from its original six years to ten years.


Bayan’s President Director, Eddie Chin said: “Although we have encountered some difficulties commencing the Wahana mine we have been impressed with the commitment and professionalism Leighton have demonstrated to solving the issues. We are confident that we are building a long term relationship which will positively contribute to our activities and secure future production growth.”
